Jungian Interpretation of Dreams Sept 28 2018

Dreams are a portal to the soul. They have been consulted since antiquity to guide us. There is reference to the use of dreams in the Old Testament. Sigmund Freud put the use of dreams in the analysis of the unconscious in his classic work – The Interpretation of Dreams. Carl Jung took the interpretation of Dreams to a whole new threshold, not just to unlock the past but the guide the future course of our lives – The Teleologic dimension of dreams. He emphasized the subjective, objective, diagnostic, prognostic, the Teleologic and the great significance of the Initial and other Big dreams in guiding the course of the therapeutic work and the individuation process. When beginning to interpret a dream, Jung suggested that we ask the question: what conscious attitude does the dream compensate?  Jung believed that dreams are “to be regarded with due seriousness as an actuality that has to be fitted into the conscious attitude as a codetermining factor” (Jung, CW 16).   This seminar on Analytic Technique will pursue this and other questions concerning the use of dreams in clinical practice. The class discussions will focus on the theoretical ideas outlined in the required readings as well as the dreams presented by participants from their clinical practices.  This seminar will also provide a forum within which candidates can apply the theoretical concepts being explored in their other classes to the process of working with dreams.
