Traditional addiction treatment attends to two levels of recovery: Detoxification and Sobriety. This lays the crucial foundation for enduring recovery. However, until the patient attends to the spiritual dimension of treatment, the jigsaw puzzle of treatment is incomplete. Carl Jung indicated to Bill W. in their correspondence, that the goal of optimal treatment is Spirtus Contra Spiritum; helping the addict to move from addiction to the spirit in the bottle to the Spirit in their own life and the universe - the Higher Power. The C.G. Jung Foundation of New York is proud to sponsor a fifth educational tour of India in January 2010. This trip is an opportunity to see India through the lens of analytical psychology, tracing the steps of C.G. Jung on his journey in the 1930’s. It will allow tour members to perceive the archetypal depths of life and psyche that Indians knew and expressed in their myth and art, and to understand how the experience and expression of these archetypal dimensions greatly influenced culture and civilization. We are honored to have once again as our guest lecturer Dr. Ashok Bedi. This educational tour will offer 20 hours of Continuing Education Units (CEU) cosponsored by the National Association for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis (NAAP) and the C.G. Jung Foundation of New York for Analytical Psychology.

Ego is the center of our manifest consciousness that directs our day to day adaptation to life and its challenges. This Ego is like the steering wheel of our life. However, within each one of us is there is a deeper center of consciousness that directs our life's latent purpose and direction; our spiritual purpose or Dharma. This is the engine of our car; the source of vitality, purpose and roadmap to our destiny our teleos. How to establish this ego/Self bridge is the opus of our lifetime. When we are ill, our Self communicates this to our consciousness in unique ways that we will explore in this presentation. When we balance the ego and the Self, we claim wellness. When we honor our Self's unique program, we attain wholeness. These three modes of being in the Self will be explored in a preliminary manner.

This lecture and workshop is presented by Ashok Bedi, M.D., Diplomat Jungian Psychoanalyst and board certified Psychiatrist. Dr. Bedi will discuss the fluid, non-rigid nature of our mind and body which is always in constant flux; the role stress plays in triggering negative flux; and the continuous counterbalancing attempt by the soul to generate positive flux to effect health and wellbeing. The introductory lecture will explore how the soul activates changes in consciousness to bring about health and wellness. The following day’s workshop will explore these concepts in further detail.
